My Approach to Using Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is becoming part of the infrastructure of modern digital systems. In my work designing web applications, creative systems, and operational workflows, I use AI as a tool to support thinking, experimentation, and production.
However, I do not treat AI as a replacement for human judgment or responsibility.
This page outlines the principles that guide how I use AI in my work.
Human Responsibility
I believe AI is neither neutral nor inherently harmful. It is a system designed and deployed by human institutions.
Responsibility for how AI is used ultimately lies with the people and organizations implementing it.
In my work, AI assists creative and operational processes, but human oversight and judgment remain central to all outcomes.
How AI Is Used in My Work
AI tools may be used in my work for:
research and ideation
drafting and editing text
visual experimentation and image generation
prototyping creative concepts
improving workflow efficiency
AI is used as an assistive tool, not as an autonomous decision-maker.
Outputs that affect clients, public communication, or published work are always reviewed and refined through human judgment.
Data Responsibility
Protecting client information is an important part of my practice.
Where possible:
sensitive client data is not entered into external AI tools
project information is stored within secure platforms such as Notion, Google Workspace, and CRM systems
AI tools are primarily used with non-sensitive or internally generated material
Creative Integrity
Before working in digital systems, my background was in the creative arts. Questions of authorship, originality, and creative labour therefore remain important considerations in my work.
AI-generated imagery and media may be used as part of experimentation and creative exploration. When AI plays a meaningful role in a final output, that role is acknowledged transparently.
AI is treated as a creative instrument, not a substitute for artistic practice.
AI Governance in My Work
Because AI is increasingly embedded in digital infrastructure, I focus on how systems are designed and governed rather than treating the technology itself as the central issue.
When evaluating AI tools, I consider:
the purpose of the tool
the data it requires
potential risks or unintended consequences
who remains accountable for decisions
This process forms part of what I refer to as a Decision Gate approach, where technologies are evaluated before being integrated into workflows.
An Evolving Practice
Artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly. My approach to using AI is therefore an ongoing process of learning, reflection, and adjustment.
The goal is not simply to adopt new technologies, but to integrate them thoughtfully in ways that respect human responsibility, creative integrity, and careful system design.
Final Thought on Transparency
Ultimately, the question is not whether AI itself is good or bad. The more important question is how we choose to design, govern, and deploy the systems that incorporate it.
Some aspects of my work may involve the use of artificial intelligence tools to support research, drafting, visual experimentation, or workflow efficiency. All outputs that affect client work, publications, or delivered systems are reviewed and refined through human judgment.
Artificial intelligence is used as a support tool within my practice. Responsibility for final decisions, outputs, and system design remains with me.
